Shekoli, my name is Tisha Summers and I am from Oneida Nation of the Thames and Wasauksing First Nation. I am wolf clan and my spirit name is Mato Huta Winyan which means Grey Bear Woman in Lakota.
I am an art therapist, artist, author, and poet. I have been writing poetry and creating art since the age of 12 years old. I believe through healing you will begin to love yourself unconditionally. I use storytelling to share my life experiences about trauma, mental health, abuse, and healing. I utilized art to save my life, express my emotions and heal myself.
I want to break the stigma of mental health within Indigenous communities and that It’s okay to reach out for help. I want to encourage people to express themselves, to love and honor themselves for who they are for both their light and darkness. I want to help people realize that they are powerful!
I have been a helper in the community with children, youth and families for over 20 years in a variety of different capacities.
